- Skydive - UK! - Articles - Parachute & Other Equipment
Skydive - UK! provides a brief description of the main components and accessories used in a basic skydiving rig.
All the parachute rigs that are used today by skydiving enthusiasts have six important parts.
The main canopy is just the parachute itself.
The drogue chute is a small parachute that is used by skydivers to open the main parachute. Skydivers have to throw out the drogue and when it catches the wind it will pull out the bridle, a piece of nylon webbing, then the bridle pulls out the main parachute.
The reserve is also known as the second parachute. This second parachute is available for the safety of skydivers just in case the main parachute won't open for any reason.
The container is attached to hold the main parachute and the second one in a very safe place.

"Potential Instructors Course ," Harry the Slime is heard to state gloomily. "Potential - - - - up if Big Jake is on it." Harry has reason to be worried. B.J. as is well known is a mortal enemy of Harry the Slime, who has conned his way by devious means into being one of the guys who conducts examinations for other guys, who for some crazy reason want to become instructors. Big Jake's reason is neither crazy nor uncommon. He wants the free jumps and to see their faces as they go out the door; a laugh a lift.

One day shortly after he has passed the two hundred jump level Big Jake states as follows : "Here am I knocking on a dee licence and not yet done a display".

- Skydive - UK! - Fiction - The Sodmore Aces Fly Again
Skydive - UK! brings you the Sodmore Aces
At Sodmore the flat expanse of grey, rain lashed WW2 concrete runway seemed to join with the equally grey low straggly sky, from which came the constant deluge of freezing rain, ably assisted by the wind, driving into the flimsy door of the ailing Parachute Club. The Club was housed in a black Nissen hut, condemned as structurally unsound years ago. decrepit but somehow forgotten by bureaucracy.
